Independent Fire Safety Consultancy for Design, Construction & Occupied Buildings

Ignis Safety Consultants provides independent, technically-led fire safety consultancy across Jersey, Guernsey, and the wider Channel Islands. We support clients at every stage—from early design advice and building applications through to construction-stage reviews, occupied-building compliance support, and remediation planning We focus on clarity, competence, and practical outcomes. We do not install or supply fire protection systems.

  • Fire strategy development and review, tailored to the building use, construction approach, and management arrangements
  • Pre- and post-construction advice to reduce costly design corrections and to “stress test” designs or completed works against relevant requirements and guidance

  • Action-focused recommendations that are proportionate and achievable

Regulatory and guidance context

  • In Jersey, fire safety compliance can involve multiple overlapping responsibilities, depending on building use and risk profile
  • Workplace duties under the Health and Safety at Work (Jersey) Law 1989 include risk assessment and providing relevant information, instruction, training, and supervision
  • Certain “designated premises” require a fire certificate under the Fire Precautions regime, with designated use defined in the Fire Precautions (Designated Premises) (Jersey) Regulations 2012
  • For new and altered buildings, the Fire & Rescue Service notes that Part 2 of the Building Bye-Laws sets standards for fire safety and provides technical guidance for meeting those standards

How we work

  • Clarify the question: what decision do you need to make, and what risk are you managing?
  • Review evidence: drawings, O&M information, design intent, and building records
  • Inspect where needed: site observations to confirm what is actually in place
  • Provide clear outputs: concise findings, practical options, and next-step recommendations
  • Support implementation: stakeholder briefings, contractor coordination, and follow-up review where requested
