Fire Safety Compliance Inspections & Audits

Ignis Safety Consultants provides practical, independent compliance inspections to help you understand where your building or premises is performing well—and where gaps in compliance need to be addressed. These inspections are ideal for organizations that want a clear, structured review of fire safety arrangements, documentation, and day-to-day controls. A compliance inspection can be an efficient way to confirm your baseline position before deeper surveys, refurbishment, insurer review, or operational changes

Compliance inspections vs. fire risk assessments

A compliance audit/inspection and a Fire Risk Assessment are not always the same service.

A fire safety audit can help determine how effective current procedures are and highlight hazards, but it may not be accepted by insurers as a substitute for a formal Fire Risk Assessment—so selecting the right service matters.

We will advise you upfront on the most appropriate approach based on your building type, risk profile, and intended use of the output.

What Your Receive

What we typically inspect

Scope is tailored, but inspections often include:

  • Fire safety documentation and record keeping (training records, drill records, test logs)
  • Housekeeping, storage, and operational hazards
  • Escape route management (obstructions, doors, signage readiness)
  • High-level review of detection/alarm and emergency lighting maintenance arrangements (documentation led)
  • Staff readiness: basic awareness, marshal coverage (where applicable)
  • Management arrangements: who is responsible, how checks are completed, and how issues are closed out
  • Targeted checks of passive fire features (where visible) to identify whether deeper survey is recommended

Why this matters in practice

The Jersey Fire & Rescue Service highlights that occupiers have responsibilities around testing and maintenance of building systems. Compliance inspections help you confirm that those responsibilities are being met consistently and can reveal where governance processes need strengthening.
